First Camping Trip of 2008

Well as everyone knows when Memorial Weekend hits we go camping and this year was no exception.
We always like to go camping with people whether it be family or friends it just makes the trips more enjoyable. So this year we went with one of my high school friends and her family. They have 4 kids of their own and they also have 4 foster kids, so with all of us together there was a total of 15 people.
So on Friday we all loaded up and headed to Spring Creek Campground which is located up in the mountains above Mann's Creek Reservoir. We didn't get there too much before dark, so we didn't have much time on Friday night to do much, but we did get the fire going and had hotdogs over the fire for dinner.
Saturday was great, the kids all went out exploring the mountains above the campground and then we all went hiking and doing some geocaching. As we got back to camp after riding around doing some caching, it started to rain. We were okay with a little rain, we all huddled around the fire to keep it from going out. You should have seen the sight of 15 people all huddled around a little campfire pit.

Sunday started out real nice, after breakfast we decided we would all go up and see where the kids had been spending their time away from camp. Now they had been told to stay within a close range so we could here them, but as kids do they went farther.
They had been talking that there was a dragon up the mountain and they were always wanting to go to the dragon. We thought the dragon was a burnt out tree that was just up the hill from where we were camped. We we learned differently on our little hike, it was about .2 miles from camp.

This is the dragon tree, if you look at the front where the flowers are coming out, that is the fire it is breathing, and it has legs coming down from there.

The kids also told us about a cross at the top of the mountain above where we were camped so after seeing the dragon we finished the hike up to the cross, it was kind of rocky and not really a place where the kids needed to be playing.

As we were hiking up to the cross Brooke was in the backpack and enjoying herself for the most part, but the farther up we went she wasn't so sure and of course she started whining. Well when we got to the cross Torey grabbed our camera to take a picture of us up there and instead of getting Brooke out of the backpack I figured she would be safer if I just left her in it, well Torey stepped out onto a rock to take our picture and all around him was nothing but a drop off. Brooke looked down and didn't like that at all and then she started crying pretty good. As we started back down the mountain she calmed down and started enjoying herself again.

We had a great weekend and can't wait for our next adventure.

Wow, I get to be the first to comment. Looks like the kids had a good time. Of course, they always do. I'm glad you got to get away, it is always nice to get out and away from home. I do like the family photo. That is a neat tree to take pictures in or near.
